I expected the Mandela House to be a huge mansion but instead, it is a regular sized house like where the average South Africans live in. Later, it made more sense to me because that was how he started off in those days. Please click here for more images of the house during restoration works.
The Mandela House is managed by the Soweto Heritage Trust, a partnership project between the City of Johannesburg, the Standard Bank Group, and the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation.
I’m not quite sure who owns this restaurant but we thought we’d sample the food in it. It was an experience but not one that was overly fantastic, as you can find this type of food almost everywhere in South Africa. The only difference is that they charge double the price, compared to what you’d pay when you’re in a regular local diner or restaurant. Still, I was a happy girl 🙂
As you can see, Mandela still lives in our hearts. This is the South African flag with his photo in it.
